One of my absolute faves ones is taking advantage of the sunlight and moonlight to both cleanse and charge. The majority of crystals are set and forget (but not all crystals - as some cannot be in the sunlight for extended periods of time due to colour fading & some being possible fire hazards).

Personally I have a little box dedicated to placing my crystals in when they’re outside absorbing the moons energy. However an ordinary bowl or container will work just the same! If you’re really into astrology & cycles of the moon… then knowing when super moons or eclipses are happening will become an advantage in the charging process!!

As for taking advantage of sunrays, I have multiple windowsill alters dedicated to catch the morning or evening sunlight. As well as a little timber carry tray to place outside, for a more direct sunlight approach.

For the most part, our crystals are natural & come from the earth. Which means, quite literally the earth beneath our feet can be used to cleanse the crystals from which they first formed. Whether you choose to bury your crystals outside, create a designated garden space or made them a home with your indoor plants, the outcome will be the same.

Cleansing & charging your crystals in soil has many advantages and by doing so, you are reaping the Earth’s nuturing, grounding, strengthening & overall protective benefits.

Personally, I have an abundance of plants taking over my home & each one has it’s very own little moss agate friend, to keep them company in the pot.

Water is a perfect cleansing method for MOST crystals. The majority of raw minerals and specimens should not have direct contact with water but can still be cleansed with water in a different way. Along with certain polished forms (to be certain… make sure to research before using the water method).

To make it more of an adventure why not go exploring to local waterfalls, streams or rock pools to cleanse your crystals. There is nothing better than utilising the natural resources that mother nature has provided us. To do so, simply immerse your crystals into your chosen body of water for a moment to wash away anything unwanted or unnecescary. (Use your intuition for the timing as some may feel as though they need more cleansing than others).

Moon water is also another great source to use & it extremely simple to create. Whether it’s a full moon, super moon, an eclipse or a regular night… place a container of water out in the direct moonlight so it can absorb the energy for you to utilise later!

When the crystals have been cleared & reset, what can you do with the moon water? It can be bottled and used for rituals & meditation or placed next to crystals so that they may absorb this energy. This particular method is also an alternative for cleansing your ‘not-so-water-friendly’ specimens.

Did you know that some crystals are used to cleanse others? Selenite can be placed next to other stones, to clear and reset their vibrations & frequencies. It is often carved into bowls, rods and wands for cleansing storage, displays or rituals.

Clear Quartz is also another great option! Place your chosen pieces in a group & surround them in a circle of quartz, the strong purifying energy will draw out the negative from all sides restoring them to their full, powerful potential.

Utilising products such as sage, incense or palo santo are great and simple ways to clear away unwanted energy from your crystals. Simply light and move around your crystals so that they are surrounded by smoke… ridding the crystals and the space around them of negativity. They are now ready to be charged and intention set.

An alternative is creating a small contained space in a glass box or jar, filling the space with the smoke, placing your crystals inside & closing the lid. Allowing the incense or sage to work its magic to cleanse & suffocate the toxic energy.

Plus now your space will smell absolutely delightful.

This method is best performed with Pink Himalayan salt as it is natural & can be considered sacred. Some crystals however are not salt friendly as they can be damaged depending on the hardness of the stone.

Crystals that are safe to use in salt or salt water cleansing…

Agates, & Amethysts - are safe however is best to avoid prolonged exposure to salt water, a quick rinse is best.

Citrine, Carnelian, Aventurine & Tigers Eye - can sit in salt but avoid long exposure in salt water.

Aquamarines & Quartz - are perfectly safe to use in salt and salt water solutions.

Stones that should never come in contact with salt or salt water solutions:

Rhodonite, Bloodstone, Fluorites & Moonstones - will damage easier and should be kept away.

Sodalite - is known to lose it’s colour or crack when in contact.

Calcites, Selenite & Kyanites - are all extemely soft and should avoid salt, salt water solutions and normal water.

Lepidolite & Malachite - should avoid salt and water.

The use of flames when restoring a crystals energy balance is a less common strategy; however there are many ways to utilise fire energy.

Meditation - holding a lit candle and your chosen crystal in your hands while repeating a mantra of your choosing.

Create an Alter - place a lit candle at the southern point of your alter followed by the tools of your choice circled around it. Once this is done the intention is ready to be set. Some aiding tools might include;

Crystals linked with the fire element (Sunstone, Citrine, Orange Calcite, Mookaite, Carnelian, Red Jasper, Bloodstone, Tiger’s Eye, Pyrite, Black Obsidian).

Herbs & Flowers related to fire such as sunflowers, cinnamon, ginger, rosemary, and snapdragon

Tarot Cards within the Suit of Wands, Kings/Knights, The Emperor, Wheel of Fortune, The Tower & The Sun.
